Tunnel Boring Machine Launched with EVO Synchronous Lifting System
Customer:Well-Connected Alliance
Location:Auckland, New Zealand
Challenge:The construction of the 4.5 km Waterview Connection motorway included the deployment of an Earth Pressure Balance Machine to bore a 2.5 km underground twin tunnel. Commencing the tunneling process required positioning the 3,600 ton tunnel boring machine into its starting position.
Solution:Ten 600 ton cylinders with internal stroke sensors controlled by the EVO synchronous lifting system lowered and tilted the tunnel boring machine into its starting position. Once positioned, the synchronous lift system pushed the machine a few meters forward to gain purchase and begin tunneling. After the length of the first tunnel is complete, the synchronous lifting system will be redeployed to lift and tilt the machine to complete the other parallel length of the twin tunnel, eventually arriving back at the starting point.
